Course Overview
The Bachelor’s Degree Programme in History Teaching trains professionals with a strong sense of responsibility, capable of working in History teaching both in the general and higher education subsystems, as well as in other areas that require scientific training, necessary for work in the various strands of contemporary scientific education, and for pursuing postgraduate studies.
Graduate Profile
Graduates in History Teaching qualify as professionals able to work in Secondary Education (Cycles I and II) and in the higher education subsystem; in teacher training schools; and in emerging areas of the educational field, with “human”, technical/professional and pedagogical competencies.
Graduates in History Teaching must be able to work in History teaching and related areas across the different education subsystems in a dynamic and creative manner, always seeking new educational alternatives; manage educational projects and school management; work in non-formal education, such as distance learning and special education (History teaching for learners with special needs); produce and disseminate scientific and technological knowledge relevant to the field of History teaching; develop methodologies and teaching materials of different kinds, identifying and assessing their educational objectives; coordinate History teaching activities in the organisation, planning, implementation and evaluation of the school’s pedagogical proposals; master basic communication and cooperation skills; act professionally based on the principles of reflection on their practice, research as a means of interpreting problems especially linked to the teaching-learning process, and ethics as the basis for educating their students for citizenship; be able to follow the evolution of processes within an organisation, capable of understanding their impacts on its development, with an ethical profile; possess technical, scientific, humanistic, social, political and ethical competencies, with a generalist approach and an investigative attitude, capable of addressing new and traditional problems in History, as well as promoting and disseminating scientific knowledge in different social settings, aiming to strengthen close links with the education sector and society, especially at local and regional level (participation in university outreach projects).
Conditions for attending the programme:
Applicants to the ISCED-Huíla History Teaching programme are all students who have completed Year 12 at teacher training schools (History and Geography programme), Primary Teacher Training, or pre-university institutes of Social and Human Sciences, who pass the History entrance examination and intend to pursue a teaching career as a profession.
