Course Overview

The Geography Teaching Course comprises a curriculum that constitutes an articulated system which, in addition to content transmission and knowledge production, includes the development by students of basic, specific, and global skills, as well as formative attitudes, critical analysis, and global perception of their future performance as professionals and members of society. Among other objectives, the course will provide: the training of a professional with critical perception of reality and the capacity to work in teaching (secondary school) in accordance with specific legislation; teach Geography classes in Secondary Education, guiding students through the study of programs at that sub-level of education, using appropriate teaching techniques and developing research work, aiming to provide them with knowledge and awaken their appreciation for the experience of the scientific method; work in multidisciplinary teams designed to plan, coordinate, execute, or evaluate activities related to Geography or related areas and perform other activities in society.


Graduate Profile

Graduates will be able to work as:

  • The Geography Teaching Graduate emerges as a professional qualified to work in Secondary Education (Cycles I and II); in teacher training schools; in primary teaching institutions and in emerging areas of the educational field with competencies at the human, technical/professional, and pedagogical levels;
  • A professional capable of dealing with challenging situations in relation to the objective to be achieved, in the organization and management of educational systems, units, and projects, in the production and dissemination of knowledge in various areas of education, with teaching as the basis of their training and professional identity;
  • A professional conscious of their limitations, alert/attentive and interested, so as to remain updated, who never considers their training process complete;
  • A thinker, scholar, and researcher.


Requirements to attend the course:

Students who have completed 13th Grade at teacher training schools (History and Geography course); 12th grade of Primary Teaching and 12th grade in Cycle II Secondary Education schools in the specialties of Human Sciences and Economic and Legal Sciences. Approval in the Geography entrance examination is also a requirement to attend the course.
