The Higher Institute of Educational Sciences of Huíla is launching the first doctoral program in Education in the current academic year (2022/2023). The program is set to begin next October in partnership with the University of Aveiro (Portugal).
The doctoral program in Education, the first in the southern part of the country, aims to contribute to scientific solutions for problems related to educational practice, the generation of new knowledge, and the improvement of faculty quality to support postgraduate studies and scientific production.
The conservation, development, promotion, and dissemination of scientific culture within the field of educational sciences for the training of high-quality personnel are other objectives of the course.
Speaking this Tuesday, August 23, to ANGOP in Lubango, the Head of the Department of Scientific Research, Entrepreneurship, Innovation, and Postgraduate Studies at ISCED-Huíla, Jorge Chaves, stated that the project expects to train 30 doctoral students per cycle.
According to the source, the project will be developed in partnership with several universities, most notably the University of Aveiro (Portugal), with the first edition lasting three years.
He emphasized that this period will involve a workload of 3,600 hours, of which 780 will be dedicated to mandatory teaching activities and 2,130 to research work.
According to Jorge Chaves, the doctorate in Education “comes at the right time,” following the extensive experience ISCED gained through several editions of master’s degrees in different specialties, which yielded positive results.
He highlighted that this partnership will involve pedagogical pairs (one professor from the University of Aveiro and one from ISCED-Huíla) for the exchange of experience and more, with the aim of ensuring the project’s continuity.
Without disclosing the tuition fees for the doctoral program, he noted that it will be a paid course. Candidates must hold a bachelor’s or master’s degree in educational sciences or related fields that align with the doctoral program profile, in addition to other requirements to be specified by the scientific committees.
ISCED-Huíla is an institution with over 40 years of existence and experience in teacher training. Since 2004, it has collaborated with professionals of various nationalities on several master’s programs, such as Science Education, Curriculum Development, and Portuguese Language Teaching.
Notable master’s programs include the Teaching of African History, Ecology and Natural Resource Management, and Early Childhood Education Methodology, with nearly 400 master’s graduates trained.
