Programme Overview
The Bachelor’s degree in Portuguese Language Teaching aims to train Portuguese language teachers for secondary education and teacher training schools; to provide the scientific training required to work in the various areas of contemporary scientific education, as well as in other fields that require such basic training, and to pursue postgraduate studies. It seeks to train professionals with a critical understanding of reality and the ability to work in teaching (secondary school) in accordance with specific legislation; to prepare future teachers capable of teaching Linguistics and Portuguese in public and private educational institutions; to teach Portuguese in secondary education, enabling students to master the syllabus content of that level through appropriate teaching techniques, with the aim of providing knowledge and fostering an appreciation for the practice of the scientific method; to work in multidisciplinary teams tasked with planning, coordinating, implementing or evaluating activities related to the Portuguese language or related areas; to provide students with pedagogical and didactic tools that enable them to teach Portuguese; to encourage cultural education and the development of scientific spirit and reflective thinking within Angola’s ethnolinguistic mosaic; and to instil in students an intercultural spirit in the context of a globalised world;
Graduate Profile
- Have an in-depth knowledge of Portuguese curricula in institutions and potential areas of professional practice;
- Keep up with and understand scientific, technological and educational advances;
- Recognise the Portuguese language as part of human construction and understand the historical aspects of its development and its relationships with the cultural, socioeconomic and political context;
- Present scientific results in different forms of expression, such as reports, papers for publication, seminars and lectures;
- Be able to write and critically evaluate teaching materials, such as books, “kits”, models, computer programs and alternative materials;
- Understand and critically evaluate the social, technological, environmental, political and ethical aspects related to the applications of Portuguese in society;
- Be able to work in a laboratory and use educational software and educational videos as teaching resources;
Requirements to attend the programme
- The student must have attended the 2nd Cycle of Secondary Education, Technical-Vocational Secondary Education and/or Teacher Training, or Primary Teacher Training;
- The student must have taken the subject (Portuguese Language) in Secondary Education for at least two academic years;
