Course Presentation
The Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology Education is one of the first courses at ISCED-HUILA, offered since the early years this Institution opened its doors to society (Presidential Decree No. 95/80 of August 30 of the Council of Ministers). Currently, it finds legal support in the legislation regulating the Higher Education Subsystem of the Republic of Angola and by the Institution’s internal regulatory instruments: (Basic Law of the Education System, Law 13/01, of December 31; Decree No. 90/09, of December 25, which establishes the General and Regulatory Norms of the Higher Education Subsystem, among others, as well as the Organic Statute and Institutional Development Plan, PDI, of ISCED-HLA.

The curriculum of this course is designed as an articulated system that, in addition to the transmission of content and the production of knowledge, includes the development by the trainees of basic, specific, and global skills, as well as formative attitudes, critical analysis, and a global perception of their future performance as professionals and members of society, so as to configure itself as the set of academic activities that enable the development of a course.

  • Areas of Intervention
    Teaching in Secondary Schools and Primary Teacher Training Colleges, and in emerging areas of the educational field; Graduates in Psychology Education can also teach Psychology subjects in public and private institutions, in higher education and/or act in other activities that require knowledge of psychology, such as: nurseries and kindergartens; child support centers; day centers for the elderly; production and dissemination of scientific and technological knowledge in the educational field; emerging areas of the educational field.

  • General objectives of the course
    • Develop skills in the fields of teaching, research, and extension;
    • Train Psychology teachers for secondary education and beyond;
    • Provide the scientific training necessary for acting in the various aspects of contemporary scientific education, as well as in other areas that require such basic training, as well as for pursuing studies at the postgraduate level.
    • Offer future graduates inter- and transdisciplinary professional training, broadly covering both classical and contemporary theoretical subjects;
    • Develop in the student a set of skills in educational sciences that allow them to ensure the study plans in the area in which they teach;
    • Conduct scientific research applied to psychopedagogy, the management of the educational teaching process, and the art of being an educator.
  • Specific objectives of the course
    • Train a professional with a critical perception of reality and with the capacity to act in secondary education and beyond, in accordance with specific legislation.
    • Provide a broad knowledge of educational and formative phenomena in their political, social, and community contexts, based on the contributions of the different basic disciplines of Education.
    • Equip students with methods and techniques of research and intervention in education, capable of enabling the realization of characterization studies, diagnostic work, and identification of needs.
    • Act in multidisciplinary teams aimed at planning, coordinating, executing, or evaluating activities related to Pedagogy or related areas.
    • Perform other activities in society for which a solid university education is an important factor for success.
    • Establish partnerships with government entities and non-governmental organizations within the scope of the educational phenomenon and the placement of graduates in the labor market.
    • Develop personal, professional, and social skills in order to promote the insertion of graduates into the labor market.


Graduate Profile
It is understood that being competent is facing the challenges of one’s time, articulating knowledge acquired/constructed in various areas of knowledge, of different natures, to efficiently and effectively solve life situations. On this basis, the skills required for the constitution of the graduate profile for bachelor’s degrees in educational psychology teaching are established, with skills and competencies, production of scientific knowledge, participation in collective work, and school/society articulation, qualified to act in secondary education and in emerging areas of the educational field with skills at the “human”, technical/professional, and pedagogical levels; A professional capable of dealing with challenging situations in relation to the objective to be achieved, in the organization and management of educational systems, units, and projects, in the production and dissemination of knowledge in various areas of education, having teaching as the basis of their professional training and identity; A professional, competent, participative, and creative, aware of their limitations, alert/attentive and interested, so as to remain updated, who never considers their formative process concluded; A thinker, scholar, and researcher; A critical analyst of reality capable of systematically questioning their own knowledge, so that there can be a constant restructuring of their professional “baggage” and of taking coherent positions.

Conditions for attending the course
Students who have completed Secondary Education, preferably through Primary Teacher Training Schools and Teacher Training Schools, and who pass the entrance exam, or who have been transferred from another institution with the same profile, are admitted to the psychology course.
